It's official -- Jay-Z's surprise concert to promo his new album is a go.

New York City has approved Hova's application, and Jay will perform on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater, where the Late Show With David Letterman is taped, in midtown Manhattan on Monday July 8th.

The "Empire State of Mind" rapper sought to perform there a few years ago, but a permit was denied due to crowd and safety concerns.

The event will cause traffic problems due to streets being blocked in the area.

Jay-Z's new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, is out July 4th.
