De La Soul is paying homage to the Wu-Tang Clan in their latest song "Get Away (Featuring the Spirit of the Wu)." As the title suggests, the group uses the instrumental opening from Wu-Tang song "The Spirit of the Wu" as the musical base for their latest track.
De La Soul's Posdnuos tells Rollingstone.com that he decided to sample the track after coming across the original sample while "crate digging" one day. He then took the sample to the studio and added a drum beat to get what he calls a "gritty" and "hard" sound.
Posdnuous explains that the group decided to include the words "Featuring 'The Spirit of the Wu'" out of "inspirational respect" for the group and their song.
De La Soul is currently prepping the release of their eighth studio album You're Welcome, which is scheduled to hit stores this fall.
