The documentary revolving around the making of Nas' 1994 debut album, Illmatic, will receive a special honor at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, when the film premieres the New York film fest, it will be awarded with the first ever Candescent Award. The trophy is part of a new initiative launched by Candescent Film -- which is behind Time Is Illmatic -- and the Tribeca Film Institute, and will be awarded to documentary films that premiere at the festival. Time Is Illmatic will premiere on the opening night of the film festival on April 16th. The Tribeca Film Festival will run to April 27th.
Candescent Film's Lilly Hartley calls Time Is Illmatic a "lyrical film" that inspires everyone to "overcome social and economic challenges." She also says that Candescent's new partnership with the Tribeca Film Institute will "provide vital resources for emerging artists and the documentary community."
