(Yahoo!) - If you were to describe what you think the Notorious B.I.G.'s childhood home in Brooklyn, New York, looks like, chances are you wouldn't include terms like "stainless steel appliances," "crown molding," or "granite countertops."

While those upgrades might not have been part of the 972-square-foot unit when the late rapper grew up there back in the '70s, they are now. The 3-bedroom, 1-bath third-floor apartment recently hit the market, according to real estate website Zillow, with an asking price that the building's famous former resident (who wrote songs about growing up in the ghetto) probably never could have imagined: $725,000, or about $745 per square foot.

The home sits in Brooklyn's historic neighborhood of Clinton Hill, on the border of the once-gang-ridden neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, both of which have become gentrified, along with many other of the borough's neighborhoods, over the past couple of decades.

According to the listing, the space is light and bright, has hardwood floors, a coffered dining room ceiling, has access to private storage and laundry in the basement. The limestone building houses eight units and common charges and property taxes will run the new owner about $850 per month.

But might the place be overpriced thanks to its link to the famous hip-hop star (who was killed in a Los Angeles drive-by shooting at the age of 24 in 1997)? Maybe. The apartment last sold in 2004 for $425,000, though it's since been renovated. And another unit of similar size one floor up closed just last month for $575,000.

But, of course, the new owners of that place will never get to say "Biggie slept here."
