Has Drake been drinking too much chardonnay while he listens to Marvin Gaye? It could be, because he's saying he wants to be considered in the same light as the late soul legend.

Drizzy tells MTV, "I have aspirations to be Marvin Gaye in the back of my head. So I just want to sing the world's triumphs and problems on one record, and hopefully Nothing Was the Same [can be] the soundtrack to their life."

Drake's already gotten good feedback for his singing on his new single "Hold On, We're Going Home," and despite reports to the contrary, he says that fans can expect to hear even more of his crooning on his upcoming album Nothing Was the Same. "Don't ever be surprised when I'm singing or using melody. I'm doing that on this album. This album is not some straight rap album -- I'll never do a straight rap album. That's not how I came into this and that's never what I'll do. I make songs for the people."

Nothing Was the Same is due in stores on September 24th.

  • Drake sounds good on "Hold On," but Marvin Gaye? Come on.
  • Marvin is the one voice you should never compare yourself to. It's like those girls onAmerican Idol who insist on singing Mariah.
  • Who would Drake be as a singer? Chico DeBargeChristopher WilliamsTerrence Trent D'Arby?
